Alicia Keys prefers easy fashion

Alicia Keys “loves fashion” but likes “uncomplicated” clothing.

The star steers clear of fussy pieces when it comes to her stage costumes, according to her stylist Laura Jones.

Alicia kicked off her Set the World on Fire Tour in Seattle on March 7, where she showcased her signature streamlined looks.

“Alicia loves fashion but she ultimately likes to keep her wardrobe uncomplicated,” Laura revealed to WWD. “So we wanted to keep the silhouette clean and really focus on great fabrics and flattering shapes.”

Over the past 10 years, Alicia has not only grown as an artist and performer, but also as one of music's stylish stars. Eager to direct people's attention towards her musical talents rather than her stunning good looks, Alicia has consistently made the choice to keep her clothes on, unlike so many of her female contemporaries.

Alicia enlisted some of the world’s top designers to craft her tour wardrobe. These included Michael Kors, Hervé Léger and Maison Michel. Akris designer Albert Kriemler also customised several looks for the star straight off his Fall/Winter 13 runway.

“While Albert was designing his fall ready-to-wear collection I was in the beginning phases of planning for Alicia’s tour,” Laura explained. “When we began to collaborate on her wardrobe, he found great ways to take the spirit of that collection and translate it into a series of show-worthy looks.”

Alicia was thrilled to be involved with the fashion-led project.

“This felt totally perfect. It was everything I dreamed about growing up, and a style I connected to as a teen. It was another creative outlet for me," she gushed last year.

Alicia has recently collaborated with Reebok on her own sneaker designs. The award-winning singer put her own spin on some of the iconic sports brand's classic footwear including the Freestyle Hi, the Freestyle Double Bubble, Classic Nylon Slim and Princess.
