How to maintain your hair brush clean

It seems that the hair brush is a tool that we use daily, but for which we make very little effort, almost none when it comes to maintenance.

We are expected to clean our brushes at least once a month as they gather dust, dirt and chemicals from the styling products that we use on a daily basic such as gel, mousse, hairspray, etc .

So here is the step by step guide on how to clean your hairbrush effectively:

1. Check the material types used to make the hair brush. Some brushes are made with sensitive materials and should not be left to soak in a cleansing solution for an extended period of time. As water can twist wood based brushes and cause deterioration to brushes made with rubber materials.

2. Use a wide-tooth comb or the tail end of a tail comb to loosen the hair. Make sure that all of the hair is taken from the bristles.

3. Fill the bathroom sink or a bowl with lukewarm water and a small amount of shampoo. If the brush is worn out and dirty, you can use white vinegar or mineral water instead.

4. Dip the brush in the soapy water and twirl the brush in the water to cover it with soap. Use an old toothbrush to remove the residue from the hair brush. Scrub the hair brush bristles and the brush base with the toothbrush until the residue is gone. Do not put too much pressure on the brush during the shampooing.

5. Make sure to rinse all of the soap from the brush in cool water.

6. Shake off all the excess water and use a dry cloth to wipe down the hair brush, making sure that all the soapy solution is removed from the hair brush base and bristles. Then place the hair brush on a paper towel to air dry.
