What do you know about essential oils?

Essential oils can have physical and mental benefits. When the oils make contact with your skin, it is thought that they go deep beneath the pores and into the cell tissues where they improve your circulation and immunity.

Others suggest that the benefits include relief from pain including:

● Headaches

● Treatment for minor cuts and wounds as it has antibacterial and antiseptic properties

● Relief from anxiety and depression

● Improves your overall emotional state.

But just because something is natural doesn't mean it's good for you. And just because something is good, doesn't mean that it's going to work for everyone.

There are some essential oils that may cause skin irritation in people with very sensitive skin; Ylang Ylang, Vanilla, Birch, Cinnamon, Lemon, Jasmine, Orange and or Pine.

If you have never used a specific essential oil and you think that your skin may be irritated by it, do a skin patch test before using it and use these following three tips to ensure the essential oils you use is safe:

1. Make sure your oils are fresh: Many oils, most notably pine and citrus oils, will become more sensitising as they become older.

2. Alternate your oils: You shouldn’t use a product containing the same essential oil every day, as it is better for you to alternate between the oils you own.

3. Make sure you know the ingredients: Especially if you're including an essential oil in your soaps or any other products, as it is important that you know about its recommended usage and possible sensitisation issues.
